What's The Big Idea?

Since I got my new computer I haven't found the time to reinstall Reason so I have been making beats exclusively on FL STUDIO 9 (version 9 is something serious, those of you still rockin with older versions, time to take it up a notch). Now there are quite a few producers/nay-sayers that still don't regard FL Studio as a credible DAW/Production program (not sure why though). Mainly because the stock sounds that it comes with are garbage (ok fine, good point).
Despite that minor issue, let us not forget how easily that problem can be remedied. Download some external VSTi's and add your own sample kits and "VIOLA!" problem solved. I personally think that FL STUDIO is a fully functional DAW (especially since they added microphone recording capabilities in version 8) and can contend with the best of them.

FL Studio has managed to gather a large following of haters (peep the irony, lol) but lets remember that hit records are produced in FL Studio almost every day (Ask 9th Wonder, Dem Franchise Boyz and Soulja Boy) in hip hop and other genres around the world. The debate can go on for ever but to me, at the end of the day, its not about the software/hardware you use, its about the individual using it. A great producer can make a dope beat out of 2 stick and emply glass bottles and a whack producer will still sound whack even if they used Dr. Dre's equipment.

Now, I leave you with a beat I created by chopping up some of those crappy stock samples that come with FL Studio. I would love to know what you think.

  1. very energetic & electronic...

my #1 fan said it was cool & he wants to hear it again.

would make a great intro track to a high energy type of set, or an ill transition to something a little more mellow. i suppose it would depend on the feel of the mix at hand, so to speak.

all in all i agree w/your stance on the producer being more important than the gear. it's how you freak it, not necessarily what you freak...
